A typical shaft machining process

Shaft parts are a kind of typical hardware accessories, and its production is more technical than ordinary parts. Generally speaking, the process of shaft machining is normalizing-drilling the center hole on the end face of the car-roughing each surface-finishing each surface-milling splines and keyways-heat treatment-repairing the center hole-rough grinding the outer circle-fine grinding the outer circle -Inspection, one by one, to ensure the quality of shaft parts.

Axle parts generally use the center hole as the positioning datum, so that it is convenient to realize the unified datum plan. In single-piece small batch production, the process of drilling the center hole is often carried out on an ordinary lathe; in mass production, it is often carried out on a special machine tool for milling the center hole of the end face. The center hole is the positioning reference used in the whole process of shaft parts processing, and its quality has a significant impact on the machining accuracy. Therefore, it is necessary to arrange the process of training and research center hole. The training center hole is generally pressurized with diamond or cemented carbide tips on a lathe.

For hollow shafts (such as machine tool spindles), in order to be able to use the top hole for positioning, generally use a taper sleeve mandrel or taper plug with a top hole. If the outer circle and the taper hole need to be processed multiple times and based on each other, when reinstalling the taper plug or mandrel, the center hole must be aligned according to the outer circle or re-grinding.

The processing of the secondary surfaces such as splines and keyways on the shaft is generally arranged after the external finishing and before the grinding. Because if the keyway is milled before finishing turning, it is easy to produce vibration due to intermittent cutting during finishing turning, which affects the processing quality, and it is easy to damage the tool, and it is difficult to control the size of the keyway. However, it should not be arranged after the external cylindrical fine grinding, so as not to damage the machining accuracy and surface quality of the external cylindrical surface.

In the processing of shaft parts, necessary heat treatment procedures should be arranged to ensure its mechanical properties and processing accuracy, and to improve the machinability of the workpiece. Generally, the normalizing process is arranged after the forging of the blank, and the quenching and tempering is arranged after the rough machining, in order to eliminate the stress generated after the rough machining and obtain good comprehensive mechanical properties; the quenching process is arranged before the grinding process.

After a series of shaft processing steps, one by one parts are presented in front of us, look at these well-made products, do you need them?
