What are the common types of machining

For mechanical processing, you may not know much about mechanical processing. Machining is the process of using mechanical equipment to change the size or performance of the workpiece. There are many different processing types. What are the machining processes of the seven commonly used processing types?


1. Turning (vertical turning, horizontal turning): turning is to cut metal on the workpiece. When the workpiece rotates, the tool cuts into the workpiece or turns along the workpiece;


2. Milling (vertical milling, horizontal milling): Metal cutting processing using rotary tools, mainly used for processing groove-shaped linear surfaces, and can also be used for two-axis or three-axis linkage processing of arc surfaces;


3. Boring: Boring is a processing method to enlarge or further process the hole on the workpiece that has been drilled or cast. The workpiece is mainly used for processing large-shaped, large-diameter, and high-precision hole processing.


4. Planing: The main feature of planing is to process the linear surface of the shape. Generally, the surface roughness is not as high as that of a milling machine;


5. Slotting: Slotting is actually a vertical planer, the tool moves up and down, which is very suitable for incomplete arc machining, and is mainly used for cutting certain types of gears;


6. Grinding (surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, inner hole grinding, tool grinding, etc.): Grinding is a processing method that uses a grinding wheel to remove metal, so that the size of the workpiece is accurate and the surface is smooth. It is mainly used for the subsequent finishing of heat-treated workpieces to obtain accurate dimensions.


7. Drilling: Drilling is to use a rotating drill to drill on a solid metal workpiece; when drilling, the workpiece must be positioned, clamped and fixed; in addition to rotating, the drill must also feed along its own axis.
