Nowadays, various processing methods appear in front of us. It is because our industry needs to use these processing methods. Different products use different processing methods. For different effects, different processing and non-standard parts are also used. Machining is one of them, so what is the concept and classification of benchmarks in the processing of non-standard parts.

1. Design basis

The points, lines, and areas on the part drawing are used to determine the position of certain points, lines, and areas on the part.

2. Process benchmark

 The benchmarks used in the process of parts processing and assembly are called process benchmarks, which include the following.

(1) Process reference The process drawing is used to mark the reference of the size and shape tolerance of the process. In its essence, it has similarities with the design basis, but it is just the basis of the process drawing. Most of the process benchmarks coincide with the design benchmarks, and sometimes for processing convenience, some do not coincide with the design benchmarks but coincide with the positioning benchmarks.

(2) In positioning datum processing, the datum based on which the workpiece occupies the correct position on the machine tool or in the fixture. If the workpiece is clamped by the direct alignment method, the front side is the positioning datum; when the scribed alignment method is used for clamping, the scribed line is the positioning datum; when the clamp is used for clamping, the surface of the workpiece and the positioning element in contact is the positioning datum.

(3) The benchmark used to measure the reference workpiece during or after processing.

(4) Assembly datum The datum used to determine the relative position of the part in the component or product during assembly.
