Oil hole drilling and milling are the processes that consume the largest amount of cemented carbide in crankshaft production. In the crankshaft oil hole, the hole depth is usually 20 times the diameter, so this is a very difficult machining task. The most used tools include gun drills and cemented carbide twist drills lubricated with oil mist. Because stress concentration may be formed around the drill hole, high-quality finishing is also essential.
