The problems found in the daily use of CNC lathes are raised

CNC lathes can be divided into simple CNC lathes, multifunctional CNC lathes and CNC turning centers according to the functions and mechanical composition of the CNC system. The CNC turning center adds a power head to the turret of an ordinary CNC lathe. In addition to turning, it can also perform milling, drilling, expanding, reaming, and tapping. The use of CNC turning centers for parts processing can complete a variety of processing with only one clamping. The processing integration is relatively high, but the disadvantage is that the machine tool is more expensive.

The spline shaft, one of the retarder components, is shown in Figure 1. In the initial establishment of the production line to formulate the processing plan, the CNC turning center was designed to carry out the turning, milling and drilling and tapping of the parts in two processes. The processing procedure is fine turning→end→milling groove→finishing the other end→drilling and tapping.
The products processed by this production line include spline shafts, flanges and hollow shafts, etc. It is a mixed production line. Due to the low initial design capacity, the production line only ordered one CNC turning center and equipped with three ordinary CNC lathes. The following problems were found in actual use:
(l) When processing the spline shaft according to the original design plan, both turning processes are completed on the CNC turning center. When turning the first end, the production line is in a state of stopping and waiting, and the productivity is extremely low.
(2) Since the fixtures and tools used in the two processes are different, the fixtures and tools need to be replaced when the process is switched. The spindle fixture needs to be replaced from a floating three-jaw and a floating center to a self-centering chuck. The number of tool holders is limited, and some tools need to be replaced. During this period, the production line is also in a waiting state.
(3) Three ordinary CNC lathes on the line are idle.
(4) The finished products at one end of the fine turning are piled up in the turning center of the CNC lathe, resulting in poor logistics of the entire production line.
